You Should Know: Kevin Cowens
April 17, 2015
Kevin Cowens is the chef/partner of a private supper club and catering business. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Dallas, Texas, he started cooking at a young age thanks to his mother, the root of his southern and creole style cuisine. At 17, he began working in restaurants as a bus boy for a pizza parlor until he moved to Chicago to pursue an art degree and become a high school art teacher. While in school, Kevin was able to cook at several restaurants garnering experience from some of the top chefs in the city and the nation. Eventually he decided to change career paths and take cooking seriously. His training includes working under chefs Jared Van Camp, Stephanie Izard and Paul Kahan among others. Taking these experiences he was able to create is own style of simple delicious food, that while in attempt to be beautiful, still honors the ingredients.
